As I write this, I am actually pretty terrified. Let me explain why that’s a good thing. This past week and a half Kody, Lisa, (@madebylisamarie), and myself have been traveling in British Columbia, Alberta, Montana, and now Washington working on a large collaboration between many companies and sponsors including The Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, Kelty, Kuhl, Goal Zero, Sandisk, Polar Pro, Kessler, Nuun, and DJI. This adventure has been an incredible growing experience for us all. Beyond running off little sleep, and often times not eating dinner until 11pm, we have been taking on experiences that years ago would have appeared off limits. From hanging out of a helicopter over the Canadian Rockies to mountain biking, or repelling off cliffs, each day we have been challenging our comfort zones.
As we continue on the road, we are preparing for some of the most ambitious endeavors we’ve taken on yet. Two days ago, I received word that my biggest dream in life up to this point is finally coming into fruition after years of persistence. Next month we will be speaking at TEDx Memphis to a crowd of 900. Directly following our return from Seattle, Kody and I will be headed straight to Maine to produce the launch commercial for Manfrotto’s newest product. After this, we are headed to Utah for Outdoor Retailer, then Seattle and Arizona for a historical influencer event that Southwest Airlines selected us to experience. Also, not much later, we will be teaching a masterclass to 200 people at North America’s largest photography convention, Photo Plus Expo NYC.
I list these events not to brag, or name drop, but instead to show what can happen when you pursue the things that scare you instead of turning the other way and hiding. I want to end this with a plea to you. If there is a desire burning in your heart, don’t ignore it. Don’t let another day go by without taking action. I don’t mean that you have to jump off mountains to accomplish this. It’s the daily baby steps that lead us to our destinies. Take a chance today. Have the difficult conversation with your mom that you’ve been delaying for weeks. Ask the pretty neighbor on a date. Sign up for a guitar lesson. Write that blog post. Whatever it is, just start! By following your fears, I promise you the most difficult yet fulfilling journey you could ever wish for.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
